MAC MPSV on trial

A FIRST in class 60m multi-purpose supply vessel has set out on sea trials.

MAC MPSV on trial

The vessel is the result of a market study carried out by Marine Assets Corporation and Fujian Mawei ship yard.

The aim was to create a compact, cost-effective MPSV that could be used in a variety of roles to support offshore operations.

The 60m long vessel has a 15.2m beam, 3700 kilowatts driving the two azimuth 360 degree stern thrusters and two 450kW bow thrusters, all controlled by a dynamic positioning system-2.

The vessel has a 1500-tonne deadweight and a design draft of 4.8m, although it can increase deadweight to 1750t with a 5m draft.

It can carry 700t on a deck that is already pre-stiffened and ready to receive via a 50t marine pedestal crane.

Below decks is storage for 532 cubic metres of fuel, 970cu.m of fresh or drill water, 180cu.m of dry bulk cargo, 390cu.m of mud.

The first in class has already been sold and the second is expected to follow by the end of 2014.

There are two sister vessels under construction with delivery due in the third quarter of 2015.
