The fatal accident occurred at about 11am on May 19 at the Keppel Benoi Shipyard.

The accident was related to the construction of the turret for the FPSO, which SBM Offshore subcontracted out to Alpine.

"SBM Offshore has confirmed that the incident involved confined space activities and that similar activities were immediately suspended at Keppel shipyards pending investigations into the cause of the incident," Inpex said.

"INPEX Australia employees were advised of the incident early on Tuesday 20 May, 2014. Our deepest sympathies are with the family of the deceased."
