The company said it would now begin a high-resolution aeromagnetic survey over the lightly explored block with partner Carnarvon Petroleum.

According to Sun, the survey results would assist in planning a recording of new seismic in the most prospective part of the 3947-square-kilometre licence for drilling.

Sun also said planning approvals to drill a new exploration well adjacent to the Nong Bua-1 well bore are well advanced and on target to spud in late 2008.

"The new well will target sandstone reservoirs analogous to the prolific Sirikit Oil Fields to the north of L20/50, which have produced 180 million barrels of oil," the company said.
