Santos misses out in Indonesian bidding round

The Jakarta Post had reported that Santos had missed out due to submitting incomplete bidding documents, but this was incorrect, a company spokeperson said.

The Indonesian government offered 13 blocks. It awarded nine oil and gas leases, raising US$102.5 million. Two blocks failed to attract interest and the bids for the remaining two permits did not meet the government's requirements.

ConocoPhillips won the tender for the Amborip VI block in the Arafura shelf off the Papuan coast, Star Energy won the tender for the Sebatik block in East Kalimantan, and Zaratex NV won the Lhokseumawe block in Aceh.

The other blocks were won by various Indonesian companies.

Other bidders included ChevronTexaco Corp, Royal Dutch Shell plc, PT Caltex Pacific Indonesia, Santos Ltd, Genting Oil & Gas Ltd and Husky Energy Inc, according to the report.

In the next bidding round, the Indonesian government is offering another 14 oil and gas blocks with a November bidding submission deadline.
