Kazakhstan oil pipeline ruptures

The Kazakhstan government has said an oil pipeline carrying oil from the country’s western oil fields to Russia has ruptured, leaking some 3,000 metric tons of oil.

In a statement the government said, “The Uzen-Atyrau-Samara pipeline burst because of rust, interrupting the oil flow for several hours. The leak was stopped and emergency workers [are] carrying out cleanup operations in the damaged area.”

The government would not elaborate further.
