The Chamera project is located in the Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh state.
According to NHPC's chairman and managing director, Yogendra Prasad, "The testing on the third and last of 100 mw is in progress and under constant observation. The testing will be completed in due course of time, thereby making the project ready for commissioning."
Prasad was confident that the hydroelectric project would be able to reach its optimal capacity level of around 32,000 MW of hydropower by the end of "the 11th Five-Year Plan". He confirmed that the power generated by Chamera would be for the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
The Chamera dam will have three 100 MW generating units and being constructed on the river Ravi at cost of around US$375 million.
