In a press statement released to Malaysian media, Scomi stated, "[we have] acquired a 60% stake in the joint venture firm Kukuh Sdn Bhd with Crest holding the remaining 40%." It made no further comment.

Scomi and Crest are both principal players in the Malaysian oil and gas industry and are tipped to be potential prime members of Malaysia's second oil and gas consortium.
