Gail to extend northern pipelines

The state government of Jammu and Kashmir and the Gas Authority of India Ltd (Gail) have announced a plan to extend the latter’s gas pipelines in India’s northern lands.

The agreement between the two bodies – formalised in an MOU between Gail and the State Industrial Development Corp (Sidco) of Jammu and Kashmir – will see Gail’s gas pipelines extended to areas where gas distribution networks can be laid.

As part of the MOU, Gail is to conduct feasibility studies on the region while Sidco acts at a nodal agency for Gail during the implementation stages of the project.

A six-member group will also be set-up to examine the time-frame for the project but no details are yet available at press time as to the make up of the group.
