PetroChina doubles Sulige gas reserves

An in-depth study of the Sulige Gas Field has led PetroChina to believe that proven gas reserves are more than double earlier estimates, making it China's biggest gas field.

With the recently discovered 313.18 billion cubic metres of extra reserves in the field Sulige is now China's largest gas reserve with a verified 533.65 billion cubic metres in total reserves in the gas-rich Ordos Basin of the northern region of Inner Mongolia.

Inner Mongolia's Erdos Basin is near to Jingbian, the starting point of the first phase of the 4,000km WEP (West-East Pipeline), which will go into operation in October aiming to service the energy-hungry east coast.

PetroChina plans to begin trial operations of the eastern section in October, with formal operations due to begin at the end of this year or early next year, they said.
