Pakistani compensation bid for oil spill

A senior advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan - Aga Faquir Mohammad - believes that Pakistan should be compensated for the oil pollution as the Tasman Spirit has an insurance cover from the American Steamship Owner P&I Association that can compensate Pakistan up to the limit of $1 billion against claims of acute damages to environmental, ecological as well as marine resources.

Pakistan is not a member of the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund, which usually provides compensation in case of oil pollution.
