According to Gujarat Gas MD, B.S. Shantharaju, "We have finished evaluation of three cities and are currently assessing prospects in two other cities outside Gujarat [and we] will rely on Gail (India)'s proposed national gas grid for spreading [our] business to other cities."
"Three years down the line, areas in the south of Gujarat would have been reached through the proposed common carrier pipeline network. The Hazira-Bijaipur-Jagdishpur pipeline will open up Central India to natural gas. We will be looking at the opportunities this will bring," he added.
As part of the expansion process, the Gujarat Gas has applied for license to set up city gas distribution networks in the Gujarati towns of Valsad and Vapi. According to Shantharaju, "Gujarat Gas's strategy will be to focus on retail supplies instead of bulk sales to large customers."
