Malaysian firm Langkawi Oil and Gas has been discussing the benefits of their new SSPSO development solution, assisted by Australian engineering firm PCT Engineers.
The presentations to leading operators included information on the economics of the SSPSO, which can develop marginal fields in 70-300 metres of water at around 30% cheaper than comparable solutions.
The SSPSO was developed in collaboration with Dr Neil Keron, a Petroleum Engineer who conceived the concept whilst working in Australia. The concept involves the addition of storage capability to a typical semi submersible production system allowing the development of marginal fields out of the realm of existing infrastructure. The design also lends itself to easy relocation, without the cost impact associated with FPSO turrets.
PCT Engineers Mark Sawyer said this idea should be attractive to operators with marginal field acreage. PCT will provide assistance with technical, commercial, statutory and regulatory processes.
