While PTTEP did not divulge the price at which it would sell the gas to PTT, the energy company (the sole buyer of gas produced in Thailand and a 63% share holder in PTT) stated that it expected to pay around 2.5% to 5% less than it currently pays for gas transported from the Palin field (US$3.13 per one million BTU) and from the Bongkot field (US$3.41 per one million BTU).
The Arthit field has an estimated output of around 330 million cubic feet per day of gas. PTTEP is the operator and holds an 80% stake in the field. The other players are Unocal Corp's Thailand subsidiary (16%) and Mitsui Oil Exploration Co's Thailand subsidiary, Siam Moeco Ltd, holds the remaining stake.
The field has estimated reserves of around 1.9 trillion to 2 trillion cubic feet of gas and covers an area of around 3,933 square km. It is located 230 km off the coast of Songkhla.
