The Powerco-installed network will connect the Duke Energy pipeline to major industrial and commercial customers in Tasmania, with initial construction of the polyethylene pipe scheduled to be completed within four to six weeks.
Installation of the steel pipeline is scheduled to start in April and to be completed by August. Powerco says the successful tenderer for this part of the work will be announced shortly
Powerco Tasmanian project manager Barry Parsons says his company has taken account of a number of heritage and cultural issues in planning the final pipeline route that would enable a cost-effective project and ensure gas supplies could be connected at economical rates.
"While there will be some disruptions during the construction of the pipeline, these will be minimised as much as possible. Hours of work for the construction will be between 7am and 7pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 4.30pm on Saturdays.
"Powerco asks motorists to obey all road work signs and traffic control personnel during the construction period."
The construction of the polyethylene pipe section may start Wednesday and is being laid in two locations: Derwent Park Rd and into Gepp Pde at Derwent Park; and Drysdale Pl and into Nelson Rd, Quorn St, Earl St and Grosvenor St in Sandy Bay.
The timeline for the construction of the PE network at Glenorchy (Anfield St and then into King George V Ave, Main Rd and Swallow Pde) will be announced as soon as it is finalised.
Parsons said all areas in which construction was undertaken would be rehabilitated by Powerco.
