The 'Offshore Oil and Gas Jobs Summit' will be held in the Legislative Assembly at the WA Parliament on Friday, February 27.
The summit will be chaired by State Development Minister Clive Brown and will feature representations from senior executives from companies including ChevronTexaco and Woodside Petroleum.
Senior representatives from the Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, APPEA and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy will also contribute.
Brown announced the summit today, during an inspection of work on the $6 million Linda Platform at Perth's Australian Marine Complex's Common User Facility (AMC-CUF). The Linda Platform is being constructed for Apache Energy and will be used to extract gas offshore from Barrow Island.
The Minister said the construction of the Linda Platform was the first of a number of offshore oil and gas fabrication projects that would take place at the Australian Marine Complex.
"With projects like the Gorgon Gas Development and increasing interest in WA's other world class gas fields, it is vital that Government, industry and the union movement work together to ensure that the vast majority of fabrication and technical work is performed in WA.
