According to Britain's Guardian newspaper, the 30 nations agreed to conduct regular reviews of progress towards ambitious targets at a national, regional and "hopefully at a global level."
"Such targets are important tools to guide investments and develop the market for renewable energy technology," the 30 nations declared in a joint statement.
Support came from all 15 European Union states, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Brazil, Argentina, Uganda, Mexico, and other Latin American, Carribean and Pacific states.
In a move which underscores America's growing isolation on the issue of climate change, the Guardian reported that America's only ally, Australia, has indicated it may shift from its hardline stance against the Kyoto Protocol.
