Isuzu, Westport develop natural gas fuelled truck

Japans Isuzu Motors Ltd and Canada's Westport Innovations Inc have succeeded in developing a truck that runs on natural gas instead of conventional diesel. If it can be made commercially viable, it will provide a way to meet demanding US diesel emission standards whilst still providing the speed and power of a conventional diesel truck via its four-cylinder 4.5 litre engine.

The two companies joined forces three years ago to design and build the truck. It is expected to be entered in an international competition for alternative fuel-powered vehicles to be held in California this week.
