Dragon in CNOOC sights?

A rumour is circulating that CNOOC has made an offer for Dragon Oil, which operates the Cheleken production-sharing agreement in Turkmenistan, as part of China's oil majors' long term goals to acquire oil assets in the Caspian Sea.

Dragon, Irish-listed but owned by the National Oil Co of Dubai, would not comment on the speculation.

The rumour could be true, as China's state-owned companies have long wanted to diversify China's oil supplies and minimise its dependency on Middle East oil supplies.
