Smith started on June 9, overseeing the efficient system of regulation of the State's $27 billion mineral and petroleum industry. He has particular expertise in the refining and retail of petroleum products, the expansion of alternative fuel sources and the processing of mineral resources.

Stuart has also worked with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and various industry policy agencies, including two years as Regional Director for the ACCC in Western Australia.
