The program is part of an Indigenous Engagement Forum which brings together member companies to share ideas about increased training and employment opportunities in the oil and gas industry for Aboriginal People.
In January this year, Arc Energy, Apache Energy, BHP Billiton Petroleum, Chevron Australia and Woodside Energy joined forces to offer the Indigenous Traineeship in Business Administration.
The Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association (APPEA) – which chairs the Forum – said today that the opportunity provided a broad range of experiences for trainees across the companies.
“Eight trainees were accepted into the program and all of them are working out extremely well in their host company,” APPEA WA director Don Sanders said.
The trainees are employed through South Metropolitan Youth Link (SMYL), a group training scheme that provides ongoing training and mentoring.
Trainees will obtain a Certificate II or III in Business Administration at the completion of their 12 month traineeship.
