The OT2006A gazettal area is a small 37 square kilometre block in the onshore Otway Basin. It covers the mapped closure encountered in Jacaranda Ridge-1, the undrilled Jacaranda Ridge South lead, and a couple of potential new leads.

Jacaranda Ridge-1 was drilled in 1999 by Boral when oil prices were very low. It intersected two main sand packages in the Pretty Hill Formation – the Jacaranda Ridge and Lower Sawpit Sands.

The Jacaranda Ridge Sand was drilled into through a fault and the entire sand package was found to be tight due to the existence of an estimated 20m fault damage zone.

“This sand is otherwise very clean and probably quite permeable,” PIRSA said.

“It can also be seen from seismic amplitude analysis to be well-developed over most of the application area.

“Core analysis of the Jacaranda Ridge Sand indicated that it is oil-bearing. The Lower Sawpit Sand flowed 408 barrels per day (46.8 API) on test. A production test over the DST interval produced about 950 barrels of oil with increasing water cut over a 14-day period.”
