2006 APPEA CONFERENCE

APPEA national conference, May 7-10, Gold Coast

IN less than four weeks, more than 1100 delegates are expected to convene at the APPEA national c...

To be held May 7-10 on the Gold Coast, Queensland, this year’s conference has a strong emphasis on maximising value from petroleum assets, particularly gas, according to APPEA Technical Papers Committee co-chair Trevor Powell.

“Whether it be extracting value from integrated studies in appraisal or in ongoing development or in application of 3D seismic or in innovative engineering solutions the theme is the same – reducing risk and obtaining economies of scale in a cost effective and safe manner,” Powell said.

“As is appropriate for a conference in Queensland we have papers on the increasingly important area of coal seam gas and the associated legislative issues whilst the frontiers are not ignored. Geosequestration moves on with a look at what is involved in getting projects going.”

International Energy Agency executive director Claude Mandil has also been confirmed to speak on day one of the conference about the recently released ‘World Energy Outlook’ with particular focus on his perceptions of peak oil.

The plenary program will also address: Australia’s prosperity in a global context, skills shortages, community engagement, effective major project management, business of climate change and challenges for the future including future energy developments.
