CNOOC starts Dongfang Field development

The company has revealed that DF1-1 will be developed in two phases. Phase I will see the drilling of up to 12 wells and the construction of a central platform, a production platform and an onshore processing terminal. Phase II development will begin in 2006 and reach optimal capacity two years later.

The targeted production capacity of the field under Phase I is an estimated 154.8mmcfd and the gas from here will be piped to customers in Hainan Province. Amongst the customers already signed up is a fertiliser plant, a power plant, and city gas customers. Phase II should see the field's production capacity rise to around 232mmcfd.

DF1-1 is located in the Yinggehai basin, about 110km from Dongfang in the western South China Sea and has an average water depth of around 70 metres. It is CNOOC's largest independent gas field and the country's second largest offshore gas field after Yacheng.
